Change – Something some welcome and others despise. Regardless of how you feel about change, it is bound to happen especially in the relocation industry! Over the past few years many things have changed for me. Looking back, I have learned a few things about change and, maybe more importantly, about myself. Thought I would share so maybe others can learn from my experience:
- Don’t give up, be positive and always do the right thing. Sometimes, even if you welcome change, you may find yourself involved in change that is challenging. In these environments, it is really easy to lose yourself, your passion, your self-confidence and your trust. Just remember, sometimes decisions are made that are out of your control. But you can control your attitude, your personal ethics and your drive so it’s important to stay positive and do what you think is right. It will make the transition easier.
- Don’t conquer the world alone. Build a support network from all corners of your life! Be sure to include family, friends, professional colleagues and even pets! When you need a pick me up, these individuals will be there for you and they will help you succeed. Success might include kind words, a loving gesture, a lunch conversation, a text message to check in, a job reference or a lick on the hand…but, each one of them is incredibly powerful and uplifting especially when the waters of change are rough.
- Be sure to recognize what makes you happy and then go for it! There’s no better time to assess and evaluate life than during times of change. After all, things are going to change anyway, so you may as well make the best of it! Maybe you plot out your career goals or think about where you really want to raise that family. You might think about the important relationships in your life and work to strengthen them or maybe you get in the gym and take charge of your health! Whatever you do, sit back and take a look at your life as a whole, decide what is important to you and push the change that is going to make you better and stronger!
- Dedicate time to serving others. Change is constant. It doesn’t just impact you, it impacts others. Take time to recognize others life challenges and put yourself in their shoes. Serving others builds character, empathy and it helps keep life in perspective. It feels good to help others and it reminds us to be humble and kind. When serving, one usually receives more than they give.
