At Roger Fazendin REALTORS, we have some of the greatest people as part of the Faz Family. This month we’d like to introduce you to REALTOR® extraordinaire Colin Simpson. Everyone around, clients and agents alike, will tell you that Colin is the most helpful person they know and that he should definitely win Dad of the Year!
We decided to chat with his two boys, Archer, age 11 going into 6th grade and Greydon, age 9, going into 4th grade to get their perspective on what their dad does.
What does your dad do for his career?
He’s a REALTOR® in unison.
What does a REALTOR® do?
Sells houses, makes a lot of money, can be kind of boring if there is nothing going on, and it’s a good job because he can do work at home sometimes, were the varied replies from both boys.
What is involved in selling houses?
Greydon said – Purchase Agreements, pens, paper and forms.
Archer said – Clients, homes, photos.
How long does it take to sell a house?
Archer said – 1 to 2 weeks.
Greydon said – more than 5 days.
What is involved in buying a house?
Greydon said – Purchase Agreements and pens
Archer said – Car, Map, Client, House
Both of them said – snacks, if it’s far or you are going to be out all day – for sure bring beef jerky!
Do you think being a REALTOR is an easy job?
No, because clients may decide they do or do not want the house, there are many ups and downs with sellers and clients changing their minds. He sold a house today!
Do you think this is a good career for your dad and why?
Yes it is, because he is a hard worker, he is smart and flexible – not like gymnastics flexible, but able to adjust as people change their minds. He is also kind and helpful.
We think Archer and Greydon have summed it up pretty well. Colin began his career as a REALTOR® in 1998. He started with another company but was invited to come and visit with the Fazendin’s. He and his ex-wife thought it was a great fit – they loved the family approach and joined in 2000. He trained with Andy Fazendin (current Broker/President/Sales Manager) and said that Ann Brockhouse (deceased Sales Manager and very active in the Minneapolis Area Association of REALTORS®) was his biggest fan. He has continued doing this because he really enjoys helping people.
His favorite part of being an agent is the flexibility it allows him to do something he enjoys, but also to have time for his boys. He loves that sense of accomplishment when people buy and sell a house. For most people it’s something they will only do three or four times in their lifetime – so it’s a big deal and he gets that. He wants to make the process smooth and fun.
His favorite part about Roger Fazendin REALTORS® is the people who work there. Colin says “People can make or break a place where you work”. He enjoys working with everyone at Roger Fazendin and he thinks the Fazendin family is a model, community family that he really respects and admires.
As the boys said, Dad sold a house today, now it’s off to the Twins baseball game with his boys. Aahh, the benefits of being a good agent and a good dad! There is something to be said for work/life balance. Keep it up Colin!
