Todd joined Roger Fazendin REALTORS® in February of this year. He comes to us with over 15 years of experience as a residential real estate agent. He was in a management role for 8 years with his former company, but he is excited to be back in the role of salesperson and consulting and advising both buyers and sellers. Todd is also our April Agent of the Month! We sat down to talk with Todd about his career, his transition and the future.
What is your favorite part about being a REALTOR®?
Every day is a little different. It could be a challenge or an opportunity, but there isn’t a day that I don’t like coming into the office. Each of my customers have different goals, maintaining value, pre-sale counseling, buying, investing, financing, re-financing…and I am happy to help advise them on all of these matters.
Do you enjoy working with buyers or sellers better?
I enjoy both, but I do love the challenge of working with sellers. It is my job to help sellers put themselves in the strongest negotiating position possible. A lot of this takes place weeks or even months prior to actually putting the home on the market.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in St. Paul and West St. Paul. I attended Henry Sibley High School. When I was 23, I moved to Hanover and purchased a foreclosure home. It was my first fixer upper. I lived in three different homes in Hanover and then in 2013 we bought a condo in Orono.
Wow, what a journey from St. Paul to Hanover to Orono – what made you decide to do this?
My wife Zina and I purchased a small cabin up north on the Mississippi River – we call it our “Renovation Project 2017”. We hope to have it done by 2017! We also wanted to cut some time off of our commutes. Since we had a place to work on and fix up, why not have something easier to care for in the cities. It’s working out really well, especially when we want to leave on the weekends. And it’s fun to see the progress on our project!
Tell me about your family.
My family is really just Zina and myself. We have been married for 14 years. We used to work together and that’s how we met. We enjoy hiking, biking, skiing and some travel, but now that we have a cabin to go to – that’s most often where we travel to.
How has the transition been from one company to another and from management back into sales?
I truly enjoy sales and being able to consult and advise as needed. I love that I am able to go back to my roots and work one on one with clients. The transition here has been seamless, very easy. I’ve felt so welcomed. It’s a great team, great management and ownership, great support and the agents are wonderful. It’s all been very positive.
I understand that you serve on a leadership board within the association – tell me more about that.
I have served previously for the MN Association Board for two years. I am currently serving an elected role on the Board of Directors for three years at the Minneapolis Area Association of REALTORS®. We stay on top of what’s going on in the industry, work with REALTORS®, customers, brokers and owners, trying to be as innovative as possible with services while protecting the property rights of homeowners. I also serve on the MN Professional Standards Committee and the MN Government Affairs Committee. I really enjoy being involved and serving in leadership positions.
Do you stick to just one area for listing and selling?
I am happy to serve a very broad geographic area. I have clients all over the Twin Cities metro area, and even as far as the Brainerd area. I’m happy to go where they need me to go. In fact, I have a network of trusted Realtors throughout the country. I can help my customers move anywhere. I’m still waiting to help move someone Internationally…but it will happen.
Were you surprised to be named the Agent of the Month?
I was surprised and honored. It’s really a lot about luck, but I also believe that you create your own luck sometimes!
Have you seen a big difference in the way that the different companies you have been with operate?
The biggest difference has to do with the size. Because of the size of Roger Fazendin REALTORS® you are able to do things in a more personalized way. I like that. It’s much like the personalized service I am able to give to my clients. When I made the change, a concern was the large Brand Company I was leaving…but I really believe that it is the agent that makes the difference with the assistance of the company. And Roger Fazendin Realtors offers more to our clients in terms of marketing, personalized service and networking than the big companies offer.
What’s on the horizon for Todd?
To continue assisting and serving my clients, to live a healthy life and I was recently trained as a Certified Ninja Selling Instructor, which I am very excited about.
What is a Certified Ninja Selling Instructor?
It is a different way to work with clients. It’s a comprehensive package to help build relationships where you create value and form strong bonds with current and future clients. I am excited to be able to share the program within the Roger Fazendin team and to lead sessions that will help our team better service our customers. This is the future of our industry…it’s all about creating a level of customer service that goes beyond our customer’s expectations.
After reading all of this Todd, it’s really quite easy to see how you became the Agent of the Month. Congratulations Todd – well done!
