March is MN FoodShare Month and this year’s campaign will help some 300 local food shelves across the state with much needed supplies. It’s even more exciting because all donations made this month will be matched. Donations are usually the highest around the holidays, but the need is great all year long.
This year at Fazendin we decided to get in on the sharing action. Heading up this initiative was Shelly Halverson, Director of Business Development and longtime Thrivent board member and current President. Shelley was able to lock in a donation from her local Thrivent Chapter to help spur on our donation process. We purchased tote bags and challenged our agents and staff to fill them with the needed items suggested by our local food shelf, IOCP. Thanks to Thrivent Financial we were able to give each participant a $5 Cub Foods gift card to help buy more donations, but to our surprise most of the gift cards were donated back to the drive and will be given directly to IOCP! We also added a little twist and excitement to our food drive. The twist was to fill your bags with items beginning with the letter of your name. First or last name letter, it didn’t matter, just a fun way to promote the drive and gain some excitement!
We are so excited that within two weeks we were able to gather over 40 heaping bags of needed goods and more cash donations for our local food shelf, IOCP. We are so thrilled that the agents and staff of Fazendin took the time and got in on the food sharing fun!
