Earth day is celebrated this year on April 22, 2018. It is a day to promote awareness of environmental protection through events and shared knowledge. In early celebration, we’ve put together a list of ways to make your home green, not just on Earth Day, but for the entire year.
We sympathize with the struggle of finding green cleaning supplies that actually work. That’s why we love this post with these 12 different eco-friendly brands. All the products on the list are sustainably manufactured and do not contain the nasty chemicals that more common products do.
Energy efficient lightbulbs
Did you know that the electricity used over the lifetime of a single incandescent bulb costs between five and ten times the original purchase price of the bulb itself? By switching to energy-efficient lightbulbs, your energy usage will be significantly less. This directly impacts your carbon footprint, which, in turn, help you positively impact the environment. Not to mention, these lightbulbs will save you money. We think that’s a win- win.
Composting is another easy way to minimize what goes into the landfills each year and to use for fertilizer. There are so many items, not just food, that can be composted. Use this list of 100 different things to compost to get you started.
Stop buying plastic bottles
Tap water isn’t for everyone, we understand that. But there are many types of water filters that can make your water taste amazing, just like bottled water. Invest in a water filter for your home and a reusable water bottle or two. Fill up every morning to substitute for your plastic bottle.
A few long-term, more extensive options to make your home more energy efficient include installing solar panels, installing a programmable thermostat, caulking windows and doors to prevent air leaks (you’ll use less AC and heat) and replacing your appliances with energy-efficient ones.
