Every year Roger Fazendin REALTORS® holds a Management Retreat and this year was no exception. There are ten people on the management advisory team. Some are agents that have a permanent position because of seniority, some are agents voted on by their peers and serve a three year term, and the balance includes owners and staff.
Most often the retreat is held at the home of Dan and Lynn Fazendin in Luther, Montana. They have a beautiful, welcoming place on Sheep Mountain about thirty minutes outside of Red Lodge. You drive through ranches with horses, cattle, goats, and buffalo to arrive at this mountain top retreat that can accommodate the entire team.
When we arrived in early September the weather was quite cold. We stopped for a late lunch at one of our favorite places Red Lodge Ales. We were greeted and welcomed at their spacious home by a beautifully set dining room table, ready for us to prepare dinner, after our first session.
One of our favorite team building activities is to cook together. Someone will take the lead and help orchestrate the entire meal. This year we prepared a lovely salmon dinner and another night a barbeque chicken dinner. No one goes away hungry and clean up also becomes a team effort.
Our sessions are daily and can sometimes be simply a discussion, often they are brainstorming times and occasionally a roll up your sleeves and do hands on work to accomplish a project. This year we had all of these types of sessions. Topics ranged from our 50th anniversary plans to a buyer’s packet to best practices in a listing presentation to utilization of staff support and everything in between. If someone thinks of a topic, it’s brought up and discussed.
Internet reception in the mountains is not as reliable as one might hope, so it really is a retreat with hardly any calls interrupting the process. Calls are returned when we get into town and the REALTORS® at Fazendin are good about partnering with agents back in Minnesota to assist their clients as needed.
This year’s retreat included something surprising for early September – 7 inches of snow on the first morning we woke up! It was beautiful. A roaring fire was kept in the fireplace to warm us while we worked. It did change our outdoor plans a lot. We were able to hike on a beautifully groomed trail in Red Lodge and we did participate in the Red Lodge Ales annual Oktoberfest Olympics. No medals this year, but a lot of great team work, encouragement and fun!
We leave the retreat refreshed, energized, and full of ideas and many new possibilities to implement. It is a great meeting that helps us set our goals for the next year and one of the most favorite parts of the meeting is to review last year’s goals and see how many things were accomplished in the year. Roger Fazendin REALTORS® is a unique residential real estate company that offers this chance for agents, staff and owners to come together. Everyone’s voice is heard as they share, strategize and help grow the agent’s business and the company. It is just another one of the many reasons why family-owned, third generation Roger Fazendin REALTORS® is a great place to sell residential real estate.
