This is Thirteenth in a series of 50 posts we are putting out throughout the years in anticipation of the celebration of our 50th Anniversary in 2015. We welcome your feedback and suggestions for the top things YOU love about Minnesota as well!
There’s not much better than a sunny day on a boat with family and friends on Lake Minnetonka! Thank goodness Mother Nature decided to cooperate and give us some fantastic weather for this upcoming holiday week.
While many Minnesotans enjoy going up north to their cabins throughout the summer, when we moved here we decided to try to find a home within walking distance of a great lake where we could vacation right at home. We keep our boat two blocks from our house in the Wayzata city docks and the kids can run back and forth to the beach all on their own.
So many great towns around Lake Minnetonka offer municipal docks and lively beaches where you can play and relax with your neighbors. Once out on the lake, you can tube, water ski, wakeboard, swim or just cruise around for a full and exhausting day of activity. There is also something very cool about hopping on a boat to head out to a movie or meal somewhere on the lake.
The fourth of July offers a spectacular opportunity to venture out onto the lake toward one of many different fireworks displays. We typically avoid the bugs on land and drop anchor close to Excelsior for their unbelievable show. We typically see snippets of many other shows on the panoramic horizons and the experience is truly magical!
