Happy New Year!
Starting a New Year means new beginnings. If your 2018 resolution is to purchase your first home, you have resolved to make a smart investment, both personally and financially.
While the new tax bill is complex, it is clear that certain incentives for home ownership have been diminished or completely removed. As a real estate broker and homeowner, I am less than thrilled with this outcome.
Fortunately home ownership has additional advantages beyond tax incentives. Real estate is a tangible asset which owners live in or rent out. We go through the ups and downs of life in these structures we call home. At the same time, and in addition to, real estate is a solid investment. The real estate market is less fickle than the stock market and adds diversity to an investment portfolio. According to the National Association of Realtors, the price of existing homes increased by 5.4% annually from 1968 to 2009, on average.
Locally, between January 2014 – November 2017 the median home price has increased 27.6%! It still makes sense to own a home.
