This is one in a series of 50 posts we are putting out throughout the years in anticipation of the celebration of our 50th Anniversary year in 2015. We welcome your feedback and suggestions for the top things YOU love about Minnesota as well!
Colorful flowers and wonderful fragrance in April in Minnesota – what could be better! That is what the Macy’s eighth floor flower show provided for the two weeks before and after Easter. We attempted to visit on Friday, March 29 but I guess we weren’t the only one seeking a reprieve from winter as the line began on the 4th floor winding its way to the eighth floor. Neither my husband nor my 11 year old grandson expressed patience for waiting so we had our own cultural experience dining at the Skyway on the 12th floor. We tried the flower show once again the following Friday with another couple and were able to walk right in and see and smell almost all by ourselves. It was wonderful! We were greeted by a life-size elephant with colorful flower blankets (can only imagine what the Rose Bowl floats must be like). I chatted with a Macy’s employee who told me that they had spent 3000 hours just putting the show together. I had been admiring the bright blue orchids and he told me they had been color infused – definitely not natural, but beautiful all the same. My husband, Jim enjoyed the bright orange and red begonias. Can’t begin to list all of the different varieties of flowers but just visiting gives hope that spring and flower planting will soon be here.
