This is 48th in a series of 50 posts we are putting out throughout the years in anticipation of the celebration of our 50th Anniversary in 2015. We welcome your feedback and suggestions for the top things YOU love about Minnesota as well!
With locations spread across the western suburbs, the Park District manages over 27,000 acres of park reserves, regional parks, and regional trails. If you enjoy the outdoors, there is something for everyone. From plenty of water activities in the summer to just about every winter activity we can enjoy here in Minnesota, you will always find something to do. Ever try paddleboarding? How about skijoring? Before spending hundreds of dollars on the equipment, the Park District has very reasonable rentals to try before you buy. The regional trail system provides great access to get to parks while enjoying a good workout along the way. One of my favorite parks to visit is Gale Woods Farm, located on the shores of Whaletail Lake in Minnetrista. Starting in Wayzata, we will ride the paved Dakota Rail Regional Trail paralleling County Road 15 along the shores of Lake Minnetonka, out through Mound, and to the south border of Gale Woods. This gem is an actual working farm. One of the best times to visit is spring during “Babies on the Farm.” You can also buy products raised on the farm in their store. Have an upcoming event? A very nice pavilion is available for rent. Trails, a canoe launch, gardens, and so much more, you really need to put this one on your list.
