Tammy, how long have you been in the Real Estate business?
I was first licensed as an agent in 2002, but since my parents worked in real estate while growing up, I feel I have been in it my whole life.
What do you love about this career?
I love that no two clients are the same. In the past I’ve had routine jobs that I learned were not a good fit for me. While there are commonalities in all real estate transactions, each client has a completely different set of goals. I’ve set up solid processes to handle the common tasks which frees me up to be flexible to turn-on-a-dime and get out in the city to network and scout for my clients.
How did you feel when you were told you were the October Agent of the Month?
Very excited! Luckily, I succeed when my clients succeed. My recent activity comes from a combination of clients, some brand new and others I’ve been working with for over a year.
How does your family feel about your career and success?
They love this career for me. My husband celebrates as I celebrate! My children also like being involved; they find it very intriguing to see how things play out. Because these are life experiences, buying and selling homes, they are able to relate to this industry. Everyone enjoys the flexibility.
Flexible – aren’t you on call 24/7?
Well yes and no. I carve out lots of family time but realize there are times when it is important to be flexible. For instance, during a recent boat outing on Lake Minnetonka I received an inquiry about a house on the lake. I just happened to be heading that direction! My family dropped me off at the dock, I toured the house with my clients and then my family picked me back up. Sometimes we have the luxury of planning a thorough tour and other times it’s critical to drop everything to get to a new listing quickly. This is what you sign up for as a real estate agent and what makes it fun and exciting. I love it!
Do you have a favorite type of client that you like to work with?
The first is probably the empty nester. Baby boomers often don’t want to move to a retirement area in the “boonies” because they intend to live an active lifestyle close to where they have always called home. Aging in place is a new term achieved by finding a home that will see you through many of the next phases of your life. The second group I love to help comes from my considerable commitment to technology, which often puts me in contact with younger first or second time homebuyers. I vividly remember being in their shoes and love how they truly appreciate my guidance. Tech savvy clients expect lightning-speed response times and follow-through, which is exactly how I love to do business!
Is there anything else that you’d like to share with us, Tammy?
Before I dive in to assist a client, I ask a lot of questions. A situation may appear one way, but after listening and collecting information, what I initially perceived may not be the client’s goal. After we work to clarify their priorities, we are able to develop the best strategy going forward, together.
Congratulations Tammy on your achievement as Agent of the Month. We can see you have a passion for serving clients and helping things come together in a positive way. If Tammy can assist you with any type of residential real estate questions, please feel free to contact her.
