Moving in or out of your home? Before you save all the packing for your moving company, here is a list of things they will likely not take with them:
Live plants. Most movers will not take any living vegetation. However, when it comes to long-distance moves, it is actually illegal to transport plants more than 150 miles without a license.
Perishable food. Nonperishable foods that have been opened are considered perishable regardless of the expiration date.
Personal documents. Moving companies will not take birth certificates, passports, wills, bonds, or anything with your social security number on it. They will also not take medical, school, or financial records. If these are stored on a computer, they will not take the computer.
Hazardous materials. Some of these items may be expected, like gasoline, fertilizer, and pool chemicals. Others may be more surprising, including paint, cleaning products, fire extinguishers, alcohol, batteries, and even wax candles are also considered hazardous. They have harmful chemicals and/or are flammable.
