This is 27th in a series of 50 posts we are putting out throughout the years in anticipation of the celebration of our 50th Anniversary in 2015. We welcome your feedback and suggestions for the top things YOU love about Minnesota as well!
I have to be honest. I love being from and living in Minnesota, but it’s definitely not the winters that keep me here. I really enjoy the summers here. And even though they don’t last very long, we Minnesotans who love the warm weather, pack so many things to do outside to make sure it sustains us through the winter.
One of those things we love to do outside is festivals, of shapes and sizes. I’m biased because the music festivals are my favorite. Locally I have some favorites: The Stone Arch Bridge Festival, Rock the Garden 2014, and it’s the 20th Anniversary of the Basilica Block Party, the Taste of Minnesota is very family friendly, and my personal favorite (not really a “festival”) is the State Fair Grandstand and free music stages, definitely something for all kinds of taste in music. There are plenty to choose from like WE Fest, Vans Warped Tour, and Big Wu Family Reunion that prove that Minnesotans have a wide range in their taste of music.
The Twin Cities also boasts of some popular art fairs: Art-A-Whirl, one of the first of the season, the Uptown Art Fair, and the Minnesota River Arts Fair. Don’t forget to travel south along the River to enjoy the Great River Shakespeare Festival in Winona too.
All over the state of Minnesota, cities show their pride by holding festivities in honor of their city and county’s. And of course, The Great Minnesota Get-Together. A website to help you find something to do every weekend is http://www.findfestival.com/minnesota/2014, but if you just pick any weekend while we have warm weather, you will find something going on somewhere in Minnesota.
